Why London Ontario Sucks (1)

Not only is this one of the worst places to see the economic downturn in all of Canada, but there are many other geographical, social, and political problems facing this c*** of a city that truly prove my point that, without a doubt, London Ontario Sucks Balls!

First of all, what the hell is with the people living here? One could easily suspect that all the babies here have some dead, stinky rodent shoved up their rears by the doctors the moment of their births. Unfortunately, this is not where it all starts. That would be too easy. I, myself was born in Scarborough, and somehow I seem to have the same problem as all other citizens of this stupid town: we think we're better than everyone else. No, not collectively, but individually. I have no idea why that is, but it seems within a year or two of living in this hellhole, people turn into total @ssholes. I know what you're thinking, you think I'm lying because you live here and don't think you've been affected by this disease. Well, there is another sickness, one that doesn't quite affect everyone here, but lots of them. It is called stupidity, and you have that too. At least I can admit to my problems. You can't even recognize yours.

What also makes no sense about this is that everyone you meet is basically the same friggin person! It seems all the nice people are students from out of town, while anyone else who isn't seemingly stuck up is just trying to get something from you. The dudes all just wanna fight, they're way too aggressive for anyone to wanna be around them. That is why the idiots all hang out together and try and start fights wherever they go. The girls, on the other hand, seem to have minds that work ssimilar to my dog's. Show him something he's not supposed to have and he'll pick it up and bark at you until you chase him. That is exactly what the females do at the bars here. Just last night my buddy had his tie stolen from some overweight punk chick, and she decided if she was gonna give it back she was gonna destroy it first. Typical animal behaviour. What a 6itch.

You recognize the out-of-towners right away. That, my friends, is just ridiculous. 90% of the people here are 50cent imitators, and instantly threatened by anyone who isn't. There is a serious social problem here, and from what I've heard, everywhere else in this part of Ontario. It needs to be fixed, but we seem to be moving in the opposite direction. In part two we will examine why exactly that is.

  1. Oh, my goodness! I'm so glad I'm not the only one that hates London. You are dead on, everyone is cloned here and miserable as hell. If you act or dress different than the rest, you're a freakin outcast. As soon as I'm done with school, I'm outta here for good. Beautiful in the summer, but that doesn't seem to change most Londoners attitude about life. I swear they are all suicidal or something!

  2. This is probably one of the worst places that I've ever had the displeasure of living in!I moved from Winnipeg to be closer to my family. I honestly thought that Winnipeg was bad but my goodness! Winnipeg is a far better place than London in my books! On the surface, the people here seem friendly, the surroundings and weather is beautiful. But this is all a deception! London is like a spiritual vacuum designed to suck people's resources..there's no jobs, no fun, no nothing!I also find the people here too conservative, not very open minded..This is highly unfortunate because many people move here thinking its such a wonderful place and then they are disappointed..Certainly not for young people or anyone starting out their careers, probably one of the worst places for that! The only thing helping this place is the fact that its a university town. So unfortunate..God help this city!

  3. London Ontario is a red light district. They need more stop lights so that people can drive even slower and dumber. Left lane is for passing losers. Oh wait, I live in London and truly dislike everything about it. It's all homes, and stupid strip malls. On a gorgeous sunny summer day you can expect the malls packed with losers. Oh wait that's me. Actually I avoid driving around and going places because it takes half an hour to drive 2 km. It makes me sad that I grew up in London, at least in a 3 rd world country they have imagination and creativity. London, u blow... There are no words to express the disappointment that you bring to all it citizens. Stop breeding.

  4. London is a JOKE!
    Don't drive a V8 here...
Traffic lights at almost every block.
Seems like the Bus stops are 50ft. apart, without a cutout so the bus can get out of the way and not create yet another bottleneck.
Above comments regarding traveling time are correct it takes forever to get anywhere and the gas gauge dips just trying to go a few blocks.
Very aggressive hobos here and the cops just laugh about it. I guess they signed up to deal with high speed chases and gun play, not cleaning up the streets.
Meth, crack and pill heads pushing stolen shopping carts down the streets at all hours of the night. Cops now let them invade our porches and backyards.
    Police response time is useless.
Everyone west of Wonderland road now owns all of London roads so get out of their way so they can get in front of you and slow down.
No real social events that cost less than $100.00 per person.
    Hawk rocks the park? Really!??
    What a complete overpriced joke!
Budweiser Gardens? Really!? Another over priced ticket joke!
Storybook gardens? Really!? Bulldoze that crap and put in a FAMILY WATER PARK and make it affordable so not just the rich can enjoy it.
London is not safe for Families... Too many wannabe gangsta's yo, out stabbing people because they are little bitch pussy punks that can't man up and fight like men. They prey on the elderly here too. If I didn't work in this joke town, I wouldn't be living here.
City hall is a bunch of squabbling idiots that take forever to make a decision, mismanage funds and raise property taxes to Metro rates to make up for their mistakes.
Roads are repaired by the cheapest bidder so, we get the cheapest quality and band-aid repairs that have to be redone constantly. The phrase, "There are two seasons... Winter and Construction." Had to have been founded here in London Ontario.
City hall wants to attract more and more people to London yet, offers them nothing in return. But I guess the more property tax payers, the merrier.
London was originally a village, then a town, now a city trying to get to a METRO. The infrastructure can't take the traffic. Move here and you will be paying for the revamping of the infrastructure and most of all, you'll regret it.
A correction to a comment of London having the most trees. That is incorrect. London used to be known as the Forrest City. It is no longer know as that. In fact, London now has less trees than a city is supposed to have. Instead of burying overhead wires like real cities. We opted to chop those peskie trees down so they won't interfere with those gaudy cables. No longer are the streetscapes shady and beautiful. They are baron and hot as hell.
London has a lot of rich people and gated communities in the west end but lack the big city elite venues.
They have their art museum and theater in the Richmond row area but, the not well off folks cannot afford to go to them.
In regards to people all looking the same...
They likely went to Fayez spa. Watch that Joke Local TV station when they show the Fayez Spa makeovers. OMFG!! Every haircut is the same and the same colour.
They make these people look older and cheesy.
London is not Toronto and needs to stop inspiring to be so. Instead of the wannabe mentality, it should strive for originality. Focus on getting these sketchy creeps off of the streets, invest in a better mental health system that unclogs our emergency departments and gets them off of the streets. Enforce loitering laws and sync the damned traffic lights so we don't have to sit at a red light at 3 AM with tweakers, hookers and wannabe gangsters circling my truck.
    In short.. GET REAL!!

    2. I moved here in 2016 and I have to tell you this is the most unfriendly and scummy place I have ever lived in my 51 years. The pollution is crazy. The dog shit is crazy. And then we have the discarded needles everywhere..like lovely. If the women aren't crackheads or methheads they seem to think very highly of themselves and are waiting for Brad Pitt to come be with them. The drivers are horrible and that isn't even the people that are from other Countries that flood the city to use the college and university. The locals are the worst. I think they have mostly enjoyed their cousins company if you get my drift.

    3. Paul, Let me start off by saying that you really, really, threw it all away on your first sentence.

"I moved here in 2016 and I have to tell you this is the most unfriendly and scummy place I have ever lived in my 51 years."
Did you live abroad? Or was it strictly within the country? If it’s the former, then I’m just going to roll my eyes at you because I don’t understand why you chose frozen tundra inbred CanaDUH of all places. If it’s the latter, then I’m just going to take the joy of laughing you out of here.

"The pollution is crazy. The dog shit is crazy. And then we have the discarded needles everywhere.."
Meanwhile CanaDUH is amongst the most drug addicted nations on earth even more than the USA. You also export meth to the US, Australia, and the Asian Pacific. I hope you are very proud of yourself.

"If the women aren't crackheads or methheads they seem to think very highly of themselves and are waiting for Brad Pitt to come be with them."
Ummm. Well here’s the thing. I don’t know where you live right now and I don’t care either because ALL your CANADIAN girls, generally speaking are drugged out trash. That or suffer from severe princess syndrome. Enough said. You better not be some creepy sexpat returning from Asia. After all, Canadian men of your profile have the nerve to maliciously make exactly that of Brad Pitt jokes about how pathetically easy Asian women are and worshiping white men.

      "The drivers are horrible".
Well I don’t live in LonDON anymore. But irregardless, was that you blowing that horn behind me the other day in TronNOH to have me make an unsafe turn and possibly kill myself? Cause you Canuckleheads are all the same coast to coast and are beyond horrible drivers. And while I’m at it, nice Canadian my asshole. Ahem... unfriendly and scummy are definitely more like it.

I tried not to be rude but when you choose to be an apologist this is what you’ll get. I’m also willing to bet my life’s savings that at least some of your places lived are within Canada irrespectively. Bottom line, LonDON = CanaDUH in a condensed soup can. Sorry if you didn’t see it that way. Are you sure your vision isn’t starting to fail you?

  6. London is by far one of the worst cities I've ever lived in. The people here are ridiculously rude and selfish. I've never felt so alienated in a Canadian city in my life! I AM Canadian. I grew up in Windsor which seems to be a funny joke to Londoners but wow what a difference. I've been here for 7 years and I do not have one act of kindness story I can share from this city. Instead I have careless police, stupid bylaws and the most ignorant, miserable, apathetic, lazy people on the planet! DO NOT MOVE YOUR LIFE to LONDON if you can help it! It's a misery pit and you'll be sorry!

  7. I agree. I have lived here for five years and I hate it here. I moved here because I thought it had to be better than my old town. It actually is in a way, but that's because I'm from Exeter Ontario. I basically moved from one shit hole town to a shit hole city. Once I have enough saved away I plan to move to Calgary Alberta. I've only heard good things about it. You're right about the people. They're all picks here.

  8. What a bunch of first-world whiners.Get over it!

I live in London. I've lived in 3 different continents and travelled a fair bit here at home: from Alaska to Newfoundland to Florida to California... 10 provinces, 1 territory and 49 states. North America is a wonderful place to live. Compared to cities in Asia the air here is so clean. People actually care about the wellbeing of people they've never met. In most neighbourhoods, you can feel safe. (Although every major city I've been to has at least a few places you won't!) Unlike African cities, you won't get smothered with beggars or conned at every corner. Most people here aren't pushy and will mind their own business. Unlike Asian cities, you won't see people defecating in the street. Unlike Europe, you don't have to constantly worry about pickpockets. Hell, most places in North America you can drop your wallet and people will pick it up and run it back to you. You can trust the food you get at grocery stores. It's sanitary. Compare that with most places outside NA, Europe, Japan and Au/Nz.

Life in London is pretty slow compared to Toronto or Montreal. Oddly enough, it feels a lot more like Vancouver, but without the wicked seafood and access to mountains. The workforce is not very diverse, which is why some people have noticed it is not very eclectic. It is a conservative city by most measures. Comments about 'looking different' being a big deal here are true. But if you're over 16, grow up! Who cares if you have your own sense of style and others don't? You're happy to be different and they're happy to blend in. Don't pretend this a big deal. There's many cities that feel like London. Regina and Hamilton are probably the closest examples that I can think of. London is not famous for it's nightlife or entertainment, but there's still lots to do if you're willing to drive around. It's challenging to get around by bus only.I noticed that people who complain about 'nothing happening in London' are people who are doing nothing to begin with. As for London being worse than other cities, there's drawbacks to every city. Calgary is full rednecks. Toronto and Vancouver are saturated with ethnic groups that don't prize western manners and can appear very rude. Montreal is also famous for their rude people. Good luck driving there if you're used to other North American cities. And if you think London is boring, try living in Regina or Saskatoon. Even bigger cities like Edmonton or Hamilton. If you want to meet nicer people, you'll probably need to move to a small town, or the Maritimes. And when you do, good luck finding a job.

There's many good things about London. Housing is CHEAP compared to the rest of the country.
As of 2015 you can build a 3/4 bedroom home for $300k in a decent neighbourhood. There's plenty of good areas where you can buy a home for $250k. If you live in the area of Calgary, Vancouver or Toronto your mind has just blown. And yes, those homes actually have a backyard. Public transit has been steadily improving over the last decade. It's not fast if you're in the burbs, but you can get around to just about everywhere but the new subdivisions. The city has a good Uni and College. On average, life on campus is more vibrant than the rest of London. Although people in London talk trash about Fanshawe its comparable to colleges in other Ontario cities. While the selection of good restaurants wasn't very good a decade ago, this has also improved quite a bit. It's nothing like Toronto, but it has come a long way.

Anyway, London is half decent if you've been around. But people always think the grass is greener.

    1. I read your review with interest. I have also lived and worked in four continents; but your life experience across Canada and the US is far greater than mine; i have never lived in the US per se and never visited Cities like Edmonton or Montreal, though I spent 20+ years in Canada. The UK and Asia -- including China -- are much more intersting than London, Ontario; but those places require a dramatic adjustment in terms of culture (99.9% of Chinese do not speak a word of English, for example, although there are now more English-speaking Chinese in China than in the UK). Recently I brought my wife from Singapore to have a look for a house in London and we travelled around Ontario a bit. Although she has lived overseas in the UK, she really found the culture and country very attractive. I lived and worked in Toronto for 10+ years; and in Windsor, Ontario for about a year. In general, London is a pretty OK place to live and, as you said, housing prices are still within reach for many people and the houses are not cardboard boxes with shoebox lawns or cement pavement for a garden like they are in Brampton. If you want to own a cardboard box and pay $5000 a month for the 'privilege' by all means do so; but a home with actual interior walls of brick and some heritage features in London, Ontario, far outweighs a McHome in Toronto. The major downside to London is the number of poor living there; and the fact that the City doesn't know how to help its residents or doesn't care. The number of poor is directly related to the lack of good jobs paying reasonable incomes in London; and the fact that such jobs -- if available -- are mostly only on offer in Toronto -- which is impossible to drive to from London without risking your longevity to keep such a job. Anyway, all in all i think London is a great place to live but it needs real improvement to make it a wonderful place to live or even the best place to live in Canada -- and that will not happen until we get people on City Council who actually give a shit.

    2. And while I don't disagree with your chronic corruption claims with London city hall, it's actually not hard to find this kind of BS elsewhere in Ontario or (I dare say) Canada (as a whole). Moreover, I think the dysfunctional City Council is just the tip of the iceberg. There's even more worse corruption in Ottawa aka our federal government. Bottom line, this whole country needs help and desperately too. We definitely also need a leader/PM in charge that actually gives a damn.

  9. I have lived here on and off over the years (currently in London). It's got it's flaws; that's for sure. Originally from Toronto and having previously lived in Guelph, this city is no better or worse than any other city. As far as any social, political, or whatever problems there are here, I can honestly say it was the same thing in Guelph. There is really no such thing as a perfect place and although there are A FEW good points here regarding the cons of the city, calling it the worst place in Canada is (beyond) stretching it.

In all honesty, most of the comments here just described Canada meaning most of London's problems are becoming Canada's problems if not already. Too bad everyone is just too smug to even realize it. And if they do realize it, it's just endless, mindless ranting with no effort to better things or themselves. Talk about being a bunch of miserable pricks.

Canadians, the nicest people in the world? YEAH RIGHT! I haven't the foggiest where that came from.

And an acquaintance of mine who has traveled quite a bit (to the U.S., the Caribbean, Brazil, Europe, South Korea, Hong Kong) has realized Americans were much more friendlier, open, and considerate than the "polite", but cold, distant and snobbish Canadians and I couldn't agree more with that.

On all my trips to the states, the friendliness and hospitality made me felt so much at home. Unfortunately, I cannot say I've had one act of kindness from Canada. Everyone is way too reserved, private, (and I dare say anti-social). But Canadians call it being "well mannered" and/or knowing how to give others their personal space. I call it being an insular, passive-aggressive dipshit. Sometimes I wonder if Canada should be the anti-social capital of the world.

Canadians love to crap on Americans just like the negative vibes in here about London. Guess this is just a break from their typical bitching about the USA. They still think they're above all. But really, Canadians are just a bunch snobby, rude, self-centered, borrish, assholes. Looks like we got a new national past-time: whining.

And don't get me started on friendships. Canadians make horrible friends. Social life in Canada blows big time. The comments here (minus AD CQ's) are definitely a big reason why. And someone I just met who has lived in various places across Canada said in Canada you're either "in" or you're "out". There never seems to be any diversity of people here to find where you belong socially, to the point where I think there is a lot of conformity just to fit in.

WAKE UP CANADA!!! You're not better than anyone else and you're certainly not any less racist than anyone else either. So stop with your finger pointing against the Americans.

Note: I don't hate Canada or anything as I was born here myself. But AD CQ was right in calling out everyone as "first world whiners". Furthermore, these people just ruin the experiences for others living here and this characteristic is not unique to London; it's become a national one.

You Canucks can all just kiss my ass. Fuck off from here, eat shit and die for all I care.

Sad to say the grass (always) being greener on the other side is the Canadian way now.

You Canucks can all just kiss my ass. Fuck off from here, eat shit and die for all I care.

    1. Well said? for a first-generation Canadian. I guess you are of Chinese descent? If so, i understand where you are coming from because i would suspect most Canadians are actually fairly racist. That isn't going to change very soon; but London is becoming more Black by the day. So, maybe that will change things. We can look forward to more diversity and even more separation between ethnicities, once the Syrian Muslims begin flooding in. I am Canadian; but not by birth. I have travelled a lot and married outside Canada. But Canada is STILL possibly the best country to live in anywhere you can think of except perhaps Southeast Asia (the US is not even close, due to obscene crime rates, racial violence; and its onerous debt burden which is loaded onto the population daily, though they don't seem to notice it). You are responding with quite a bit of racism yourself and that is sad. I expect years of being left out of groups, years of being rejected by Canadian women (many of whom are lesbos now) and many other overt and subtle acts of racism in Canada have poisoned your mind towards Canadians. I am sad that this is true; but if you are better than this, then you can rise above it and become something in Canada, regardless. While I won't go so far to say the entire nation is filled with racist fuckbags, i have seen plenty of examples myself and I married a Chinese and we plan to live in Canada -- so we will undoubtedly experience all this and more. But life is short: if you cannot change the people you live with, perhaps the only thing you can do is change where you live OR make constructive efforts to build society into something better. Living in Singapore for years, I have found that most Singaporeans are insular and won't go out of their way to befriend lowai (non-Chinese); and this has made me despise the country and its ethnocentric, xenophobic small-minded and highly materialistic populace. Yet i married a Singpaorean. But my wife is quite different from the less enlightened who make up the majority Chinese peopulation; and so i will work together with her to change the attitudes of others for the better. And get on with my life and with my future. I think you *must* do the same; or else you will become bogged down in a life of bitterness and then, its consequential regret and self pity.

    2. If Canada sucks why do you want to live here? I've lived in Malaysia. Malays (bumi putras) are racist, as are Chinese and Indians. In this country the bpacks refuse to get to the bottom and of their social problems and their youth commit increasing numbers of violent crimes. Canada is getting worse and its because the government does not have the "balls" to get tough on crime and does not see that multicultural ism is a failure. People need to keep their backward, violent attitudes in their home countries and learn to be Canadian.

    4. @ Mike H, and you sir are the exact reason why I just had to say what I've been saying all along. And just to let you know, this is no isolated incident either. It's actually not hard to find others out there immigrant or even Canadian born that hold similar sentiments about how Canadians are amongst the most unfriendly folks the've met compared to others. Let me guess, Canadians are friendly just because "we're the most tolerant/accepting people on earth" but we're reserved because we have to know the person first blah blah blah whatever all that means now. Gotta love the excuses.

By the way, are you white? Let's not forget who the original peoples of Canada really were. Afraid to look at your own reflection, well too bad. Now piss off.

    5. Paul L, Thank you for your encouragement. Sorry that I may have came off way too strongly: Fortunately I was able to dust my boots off these past few months and finally move forward.

When you said becoming more "black", I take it you meant diverse/multicultural, correct? In an honest sense, perhaps compared to 15-20 years ago. But as a whole according to the 2011 census, London was 82.0 % white and therefore no cigar really compared to Toronto and not even close nor will it ever be. It's diversity still weighs heavily into Western University and Fanshawe college, likewise with most university towns. In addition, it's also much less cosmopolitan than some of the other neighbouring/similarly sized cities.

Then again, diversity may not be all it's cracked up to be if everyone just self segregates given our cultural mosaic which is already prevalent in our big cities.

And you're right about the US. I know that the grass isn't necessarily greener there either. But fact is that the "nice" Canadian stereotype is, at best, completely overblown and in which what I was trying to emphasize.

Believe it or not, London (despite all its flaws) was actually one of my better experiences that made me want to give Canada "another chance".

  12. Crying "racism" is the last resort of a loser. Can't get a job? Rather than looking at yourself and your weaknesses you complain about racism. The whites are fairly open-minded. They allowed their country to be open to all races and creeds. Now we're becoming more "diverse" but more and more separate. Indians, Chinese, blacks are also racist.

  14. First off, I know that there are racists found in any and every ethno-racial group. My whole point, even though poorly emphasized, was that Canadians (not all) are extremely sanctimonious as if they can do no wrong ever, which gets extremely annoying (at best). Or better yet as the saying goes, people who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones. Secondly, I wasn't, at any point, ever screaming racism because I couldn't get a job nor would I ever even think of doing that. I think you may have had me confused with OP's loser post and most of the whiny useless bandwagon above following along.
